The Department of Correctional Services in South Africa has expressed its embarrassment over online images of a female officer having sex with a prisoner in one of the prison’s offices in KwaZulu-Natal.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the female warder passionately kissing the prisoner in what seems to be a jail office before they all get half naked and engage in the act.
Singabakho Nxumalo, a department spokesperson who acknowledged the video’s authenticity, said the shocking scenes of purported sexual intercourse between an employee and a prisoner at the Ncome Correctional Centre have left the institution appalled, humiliated, and gutted.
He said in a statement;
“A video with flustering scenes of alleged sexual activity between an official and an inmate at the Ncome Correctional Centre, KwaZulu-Natal Region, has left the Department of Correctional Services appalled, embarrassed and gutted.
“Sexual activities between inmates and correctional officials are shameful incidents that can never be ascribed to what is expected of our officials.
“Correctional officials are expected to abide by a code of conduct, and despicable acts of sexual activities with inmates shall never be tolerated.”
Nxumalo went on to say that the female warder involved had been found and that she would be subjected to punitive action right away.
“Disciplinary measures have also been instituted against the inmate. Despicable acts of sexual activities with inmates shall never be tolerated.”
The Department of Correctional Services announced in January that it would implement body scanners at specified correctional facilities within six control areas in an attempt to combat contraband smuggling into prisons.
The body scanners were installed after an employee was found attempting to smuggle contraband at St Albans Correctional Centre in the Eastern Cape, according to Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola.
