A male rat has given birth in a “Frankenstein-style” experiment which conjoined it with a female.

Scientists in China say they have succeeded in their attempt to produce a baby rat inside a male and performed a Caesarean section for its birth.

The report of the experiment by Naval Medical University in Shanghai goes into grim detail on how they impregnated a male by castrating him, fusing his body onto a female’s, and giving him a uterus transplant.

A previous study looking at the possibility of uterus transplants, says the research is likely to prove vital in enabling transgender women to give birth in the future, right-wing conspiracy site InfoWars reports.

Published at bioRxiv.org, the introduction states: “Here we investigated the question of whether male pregnancy with livebirths can be achieved in a rat model if the speculative problems were solved by existing methods.

“We constructed a rat model of male pregnancy by a four-step strategy.

“The success rate of modeling was only 3.68%, but 10 pups could still be delivered from male [conjoined rat] and developed.

“Our research reveals the possibility of normal embryonic development in male mammalian animals, and it may have a profound impact on the research of reproductive biology.”

The NYU School of Medicine had already made strides in the area of uterus transplantation for men or “women who are genetically XY,” with findings published in the Journal of Medical Ethics.

In that study, researchers claimed it was important for transgenders to have “equitable access to uterine transplants,” InfoWars reports.

It reads: “From a justice perspective, there is a moral imperative to ensure equitable access to UTx [uterine transplant].

“In this case, arguments against providing UTx to genetically XY [transgender] women for reasons unrelated to safety and efficacy should be assessed carefully to address potential discrimination against genetically XY women as a social group.”
