The Accra Regional Police Command has launched an operation that has resulted in the arrest of 215 people.
The operation follows a rash of violent crimes in Accra, including a bullion van attack outside James town last Monday that resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a bystander.
A total of 17 ladies were apprehended throughout the three-day operation, which began on Thursday, June 17, 2021, and finished on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
The suspects’ ages range from 17 to 52 years old.
Korle Bu, Tesano, Amasaman, Nima, Dansoman, Abokobi, Accra Central, Teshie, Madina, Batsona, Jamestown, Osu, and Lakeside are among the exercise locations, according to the police.
Though the three-day operation is part of a series of drills conducted by the command since the beginning of the year, it is part of attempts to combat violent crimes, drug trafficking, and street robberies.
Wrapped narcotics items, sharp instruments, mixes of concoctions laced with drugs, tramadol, and other chemicals were largely intercepted by the police.
168 motorcycles were also targeted and impounded as part of the operation, which investigators suspect were used to facilitate the crimes.
The arrested suspects have been jailed and are being subjected to various levels of screening to determine if they are linked to any of the crimes being investigated.
