Sadio Mane of Senegal and Liverpool contributed 500,000 pounds (about 694,000 US dollars) to assist establish a hospital in Bambali, Senegal, where he was born.

Mane’s hometown of Bambali, where he was born, lacked a hospital, so the Senegalese forward opted to help with that philanthropic effort as a way of paying honor to his hometown.

Mane (29) had previously donated 250,000 pounds (about 350 dollars) to help the village build a school. The new hospital will have maternity care, dental treatment, and consulting rooms, among other things.

Senegal and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane met with H.E Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, last week to discuss Mane’s hospital project.

“Sadio Mané has presented the Head of State with an ambitious plan to build a hospital in Bambali and is counting on state support for medical personnel,” according to a statement posted on Twitter by the Senegalese Presidency.

Mane, who was born in Bambali, currently plays for Liverppol FC, with whom he has won the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. In 2019, he was named CAF Player of the Year.
