A 19-year-old Motorking rider was condemned to 30 years in jail by His Lordship Justice Alexander Graham.
After robbing two students at 3:35 am from the Yeboah Asuamah SHS in their room, Bawa Ebenezer was arrested on Saturday.
“This is an armed robbery case that occurred on Saturday, August 21,” Inspector Emmanuel Kudalor told JoyNews. The accused attacked them while they slept in their room and demanded their personal stuff.
According to Inspector Kudalor, “the court deemed it fit to give him a sentence that would deter others from committing the same crime”.
Before sentencing, the accused pled guilty to three of the five counts.
The counts are unauthorized entrance and robbery under section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (act 29). (act 29).
“In this case, the court wisely sentenced him to 3 years on Count 1, 30 years on Count 2, and 30 years on Count 4.” This time, the sentences are to run concurrently.
In a statement to JoyNews, one of the victims said, “the convict broke into our room around 3am and threatened to kill myself and my roommate if we didn’t give him our phones.” We handed him the phones out of terror, and when I battled with him, he sliced my hand with the scissors before fleeing”.
JUDGE Alexander Graham noted in his decision that the term will act as a deterrence to others and assist decrease armed robberies.
